Measures have been taken by the Ministry of Petroleum Industries to increasing fuel storage capacity up to 3 million liters at Mattala Rajapaksha international airport (MRIA). According to Ministry sources the airport had the capability of fuelling up to two hundred thousand liters of jet fuel before commissioning of this project. .
MRIA can accommodate any large aircraft from anywhere in the world for refueling with the commissioning with this latest facility improvement. USD 40 million has been spent on this project.

Amana Pipeline Construction has been contracted in 2012 to construct the Storage Facility and Fuel Hydrant System at Hambantota International Airport in Sri Lanka.
